Welcome to my first Blog!

I found this super cute antique truck material while I was looking for something to make for my sister in law. Let's make a blanket together! I am calling it Antique Truck Shadow Box blanket.

I don't know why I am so obsessed with this material, but I bet the Etsy seller that I bought it from is happy...I bought a lot! First, I cut out the trucks and measured them. They are 4 3/4 inch squares.

I wanted to create a shadow box with these trucks, so I used a medium grey fabric to outline them. I cut the shadow material shorter than the squares to give them the shadow effect. One strip I cut 5" x 1 1/2" and one 4" x 1 1/2 ." Then I chose a cream color for the background and cut 2 squares for each block at 1 1/2."

Get the assembly line ready and sew one background 1 1/2" square to each of the shadow strips. I had 56 truck blocks, so I had to sew 56 of the 5" strips and 56 of the 4" strips to a 1 1/2" square background fabric. Then, I had to press all of these bad boys!

To attach the shadow to the block, place the 4" strip to the bottom and sew. Then attach the 5" strip to the right side and sew. Press between each step.

Then I got to play around with how I wanted to lay the blocks out. Still obsessed! I probably spent too much time on this part. :)

Next, I need to attach the blocks together, so I cut a 6" x 2 1/2" strip of the background fabric and attached one to the right of the blocks except the last one in each row. Then I sewed the blocks into rows.

To attach the rows together, I sewed a 52" by 2 12' in strip between the rows and added one strip to the top and bottom to give it a nice background frame. I forgot to take a pic of this part, but you can see it in the picture below.

It's so cute, and my sister-in-law loves it!

After binding and quilting, this ended up being 56" x 70."
